Suzan Lori-Parks, seen at the Public this season with In the Blood (a Pulitzer finalist), will be represented again in 2000-2001 with Topdog/Underdog. So much for the dogs. Now, the Dogeaters. This new semi autobiographical play by Jessica Hagedorn is about life in the Philippines. Journeying through the Manila of the 1970s and 80s, the story features such figures as Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Imelda Marcos.

David Grimm's play Kit Marlowe is based on the life of famous playwright and infamous dastard Christopher Marlowe. Marlowe, a contemporary of and influence on Shakespeare, was the author of Doctor Faustus, The Jew of Malta and Tamburlane the Great. As notorious in his private life as his public, Marlowe was accused in his time of atheism, blasphemy and espionage. This reputation was sealed by his murder in a tavern brawl at the age of 29.

Lastly, Book of the Dead is a new multi-media work by John Moran. In the piece, Moran mixes the Egyptian and Tibetan Books of the Dead with episodes from daily life in an examination of the nature of life and death. No directors and actors have been attached to the projects.
