The Flea Theater has announced its 2016 fall season, which will include a world premiere by Sylvia playwright A.R. Gurney and a new interpretation of The Trojan Women adapted by Ellen McLaughlin.
In August, the Flea will present the Off-Broadway debut of McLaughlin’s The Trojan Women, directed by Anne Cecelia Haney. The production weaves music, movement and ritual to examine how war affects every member of a community. Performances are set to run August 24-September 26.
Gurney is a long-time collaborator of the Flea and returns with his ninth world premiere at the theatre: an evening of two one-acts titled Two Class Acts. The first, Squash, is set on a college campus in the 1970’s and explores the fluidity of sexuality at the time; the second, Ajax, sees an actress-turned-teacher look to an ancient text to discover her true self. Stafford Arima directs, with performances set to play October 10-November 21.
The fall season will also include a continuation of Serials @ The Flea, the theatre’s late-night play competition.
