The George Abbott-Betty Smith-Arthur Schwartz-Dorothy Fields musical, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, will take root in San Francisco Sept. 30, courtesy of the 42nd Street Moon company. The production, which runs through Oct. 18, follows up Moon's recent staging of Redhead.
Tree bowed in 1951 and starred Shirley Booth of Come Back Little Sheba. The show tells of a New York marriage at the turn of the century as seen through a young girl's eyes. The score includes the songs "Love Is the reason" and "Make the Man Love Me."
As it did with Redhead, Moon is producing Tree in a season- long celebration of Fields' lyrics.
Performances take place at the New Conservatory Theatre Center at Van Ness and Market. For information on 42nd Street Moon, call (415) 861- 8972.
