Sorkin will direct "The Politician," a new film based on the book penned by former Edwards aide Andrew Young. The book detailed Edwards' affair with documentary filmmaker Rielle Hunter, during which the senator, fathered Hunter's child. News of the affair first broke during Edwards failed 2008 bid to be the Democratic presidential candidate. Sorkin, who will make his feature film directorial debut with the project, is also set to produce and pen the screenplay for "The Politician." He said in a statement: "This is a first hand account of an extraordinary story filled with motivations, decisions and consequences that would have lit Shakespeare up. There is much more to Andrew's book than what has been reported and I am grateful that he's trusting me with it."

Sorkin's last Broadway outing was The Farnsworth Invention in 2007. His screenplays include "A Few Good Men" (based on his play), "Charlie Wilson's War" and "The American President." He authored and created the series "The West Wing," "Sports Night" and "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." Ken Davenport will produce a Broadway revival of A Few Good Men, under the direction of David Esbjornson, this season following Esbjornson's staging of the Broadway premiere of Alfred Uhry's Driving Miss Daisy.
