Peter Reckell will have a major homecoming this September when he joins the cast of the Off-Broadway revival of The Fantasticks as El Gallo 35 years after playing The Mute during the show's original run.

In the interim, Reckell earned an Emmy Award nomination for his performance as Bo Brady, a role he originated on the NBC daytime drama Days of Our Lives. He will take the role of the charismatic and mysterious El Gallo when he joins the cast of the long running musical at the Jerry Orbach Theatre near Times Square in a limited engagement that begins on September 5 and runs through September 25 .

Reckell played the role of The Mute and covered the role of The Boy (Matt) 35 years ago during the show's original record-breaking run at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in Greenwich Village. El Gallo is the mysterious character who narrates the show and leads the staged abduction of The Girl. Among his songs are “Try to Remember” and “I Can See It.”

Reckell made his network-television debut in 1980 as Eric Hollister on As the World Turns. He then played the rugged cop Bo on Days of our Lives 1983–87 and again 1990-91 and 1995-2012. He was nominated for his first Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2009.

He returned to the role once again in fall 2015 and died in the arms of his great love, Hope. Between stints on Days, Reckell starred in the role of Johnny Rourke on the primetime series Knots Landing. Reckell’s regional stage credits include Moonchildren, Pirates of Penzance, Jesus Christ Superstar, Guys and Dolls, Love Letters and Death Trap.

The current cast of The Fantasticks features Andrew Polec as The Boy (Matt), Madison Claire Parks as The Girl (Luisa), Donald Corren as The Boy’s Father (Hucklebee), Dale Hensley as The Girl's Father (Bellomy), MacIntyre Dixon as The Old Actor (Henry), Michael Nostrand as The Man Who Dies (Mortimer) and Drew Seigla as The Mute. The production also features John Thomas Waite, Rob Richardson and Kimberly Immanuel.

Robert Felstein is the Musical Director/Pianist and Marge Fitts is the Harpist. Production Stage Manager is Paul Blankenship and the Assistant Stage Manager is Earlye Rhodes.
