The Potting Shed, one of Greene's few attempts at theatre, played on Broadway with a cast featuring Dame Sybil Thorndike and Frank Conroy. Though it ran for five months only, it was Greene's greatest Broadway success.
The story concerns the son of a famous atheist who seeks to uncover a childhood mystery in his past. He eventually discovers that he committed suicide in the eponymous potting shed at the age of 14, but was revived when his uncle, a priest, entered into a strange bargain with God.
Fans of British theatre critic Kenneth Tynan know the play from the writer's famous pan of it, in which Tynan imagines himself ten years after the drama's debut, a broken man who has lost his faith in theatre and resorted to psychotherapy.
The TACT cast will feature James Prendergast, Stina Nielson, Francesca Di Mauro, Darrie Lawrence, Jack Koenig, Kyle Fabel, Nicholas Krepos, Jamie Bennett, Paddy Croft, Laurinda Barrett, and Simon Jones as Father William Callifer. Scott Alan Evans directs.
