News Actor's Express Raises Loot For Atlanta Critic's Son Dec. 7 In late September, Atlanta Journal and Constitution theatre critic and writer Dan Hulbert drove up to Johns' Mountain, a wilderness area in northwest Georgia, and left the vehicle running on a remote stretch of utility road. His body was found Sept. 26 by park service workers. The cause of death was asphyxiation in an apparent suicide attempt.

In late September, Atlanta Journal and Constitution theatre critic and writer Dan Hulbert drove up to Johns' Mountain, a wilderness area in northwest Georgia, and left the vehicle running on a remote stretch of utility road. His body was found Sept. 26 by park service workers. The cause of death was asphyxiation in an apparent suicide attempt.

Hulbert was survived by his wife Cathy and 9 year old son Mac. The Actor's Express Theatre in Atlanta, in an effort to raise money for the Mac Hulbert Trust Fund, will host a special benefit performance of Joe Orton's Loot Dec. 7.

The critic, who supported local theatres, when not writing profiles, cultural essays and travel pieces, had been with the Atlanta Journal and Constiution since 1987. Previously he wrote for the Dallas Times Herald. Actor's Express artistic director Wier Harman described Hulbert in a statement as "thoughtful, rigorous and inspiring."
