News Adler, Birney and O'Connell Part of Free Reading of Swimming in the Shallows Out Loud, the free weekly Manhattan play-reading series, continues Dec. 8 with Swimming in the Shallows.

Adam Bock's play will be read at 7 PM at the Ars Nova Theatre. Directed by Trip Cullman, the reading will feature the talents of Joanna Adler, Reed Birney, Jason Butler Harner, Logan Marshall Green, Didi O'Connell and Jeanine Serralles. According to production notes, Swimming in the Shallows concerns "four friends [who] keep afloat amidst a wedding, a shark and a Buddhist monk doctrine. Swimming in the Shallows was previously produced in San Francisco, where it was awarded Best Overall Production, Best Original Script and Best Ensemble at the Bay Area Theatre Critics Awards. Bock also wrote the play Five Flights, which will be produced at Rattlestick in Jan. 2004. Recently commissioned by Playwrights Horizons, Bock received his MFA in playwriting from Brown University.

The Ars Nova Theater is located in New York City at 511 West 54th Street. Presented by the Ars Nova Theater and the Underwood Theater, there is no charge to attend the Out Loud series, although reservations are required. Call (212) 977-1700.
