Fans of the New Yorky lyrics of lyricist Adolph Green (On the Town) might be surprised to learn that his daughter, Amanda Green, is also songwriter, but with a country bent. Green, whose mother is actress Phyllis Newman (A Majority of One), shows off her comic, country-flavored work in a new act, Take It Like Amanda, playing Saturdays in March at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in New York City.
Green's comic performance style and original music and lyrics have been called a cross between Nashville and New York sophistication.
Among her past songs: "We Broke Up, I Broke Down," "Every Time a Friend Succeeds A Little Piece of Me Dies Inside," "Took a Lot of Money to Look This Cheap" and "The Best Piece of Ass in Savannah."
She'll perform 8 PM March 6, 13, 20, and 27 at the Beechman, 407 W. 42nd St.
Green is a member of The BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop and the Writer's Lab at Musical Theatre Works.
Performing with her are Tom Kitt on piano and Chris Huff on guitar.
