News After Midnight Celebrates Duke Ellington and Jazz Appreciation Month With Weeklong Events The Broadway musical revue After Midnight, inspired from Duke Ellington's years at the Cotton Club, will celebrate Ellington's birthday (April 29) and Jazz Appreciation Month with a week of special activities throughout the city.

Directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle and featuring nine-time Grammy Award winner Wynton Marsalis' Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars, After Midnight performs at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street).

The musical, which reintroduces the Cotton Club's tradition of rotating guest stars, currently stars Vanessa Williams as its headlining vocalist. Grammy Award-winning recording artist Fantasia began the tradition (Oct. 18, 2013-Feb. 9, 2014), followed by four-time Grammy Award-winning icon k.d. lang (Feb. 11-March 9) and Grammy Award-winners Toni Braxton and Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds (March 17-30). Multi-platinum recording artist and actress Williams continues through May 11, followed by a four-week return engagement by Fantasia (May 13-June 8).
