The series is presented as a downtown counterpart to the Y's popular "Lyrics & Lyricists" series, which launched at its uptown home in 1970.
The 7:30 PM event will feature Ahrens and Flaherty speaking about their collaboration and their experiences bringing their works to the stage. Flaherty will be seated at the piano with a series of guest performers who will be announced at a later date.
“We’re so excited to start this new venture, and it’s hard to imagine two more fitting artists to launch it than Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. They’re such talented musical theater professionals at the top of their game, who exemplify the American Songbook tradition," said "L&L" artistic director Deborah Grace Winer in a statement.
The writers won the Best Score Tony Award for Ragtime and also penned the musicals The Glorious Ones, Dessa Rose, A Man of No Importance, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Seussical and Lucky Stiff. They also penned songs for the animated feature "Anastasia."
