Classic Arts News Ainadamar to be Performed at 2006 Ravinia Festival A concert version of Osvaldo Golijov's Ainadamar will be presented at the Ravinia Festival this summer, offering Chicago audiences their first glimpse of the work.
The June 14th performance of the Argentinian born composer's one-act opera will feature American soprano Dawn Upshaw as actress Margarita Xirgu, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and conductor Robert Spano—all frequent Golijov collaborators.

Chicago audiences will be seeing more of Golijov in the near future, when he becomes composer-in-residence of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra next season alongside British composer Marc-Anthony Turnage.

Ainadamar ("The Fountain of Tears") was commissioned for the 2003 Tanglewood Festival and depicts the final days of Spanish playwright and poet Federico Garcia Lorca. Golijov's El Niê±o was performed at the 2002 Ravinia Festival by Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
