John Tiffany, the director of Black Watch and the current Off-Broadway musical Once, will co-direct Macbeth with Andrew Goldberg. It will first premiere in Glasgow June 14-30, 2012, followed by a July 5-14, 2012, New York run as part of the Lincoln Center Festival.
Tiffany previously directed Cumming (Cabaret, The Seagull) in The Bacchae, which was seen at the Lincoln Center Festival in 2008. Cumming made his stage debut as Malcolm in the Michael Boyd production of Macbeth in Glasgow.
"I have been obsessed with Macbeth for as long as I can remember," Cumming said in a statement. "It was the first Shakespeare I ever read, the first I was ever in and it continues to haunt and inspire me. The only thing I can think of more exciting, challenging and terrifying than this play is to do a one-man version of it with these great directors and this great Company and to perform it in my two favourite cities in the world, Glasgow and New York."
Full details on the 2012 Lincoln Center Festival have not been announced.
