When Marvel's Captain America gets his own big-screen adventure, "Captain America: The First Avenger," in movie theatres July 22, a new song by Broadway and Hollywood songwriters Alan Menken and David Zippel will be heard.

Composer Menken and David Zippel were nominated for the Academy Award for their song "Go the Distance" from the animated film "Hercules." This summer, in a montage sequence in "Captain America," moviegoers will hear the new Menken-Zippel song "The Star-Spangled Man (With a Plan)."

Zippel told Playbill.com that the title super-soldier in the World War II-set film appears at war bond rallies, where the song is performed. "It's a montage, and it's before he's actually Captain America," Zippel said. "[He's] in the process of becoming him. It shows him in these war bond presentations around the country over a series of time. It's very period, and Alan and I had a really good time doing it."

Don't worry, Captain America isn't singing in the movie. "It's sort of the Army band [and] a USO group singing," Zippel said.

Tony Award winner Zippel (City of Angels) is currently represented in New York City as director-conceiver of The Best Is Yet to Come: The Music of Cy Coleman, the revue of Coleman songs, at Off-Broadway's 59E59 Theaters. Academy Award winner Menken ("The Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast") was a 2011 Tony Award nominee for Sister Act, now at the Broadway Theatre.
