News Alan Menken to Be Honored with Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Composer Alan Menken, who will be represented on Broadway later this season with Sister Act The Musical, will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Motion Pictures Nov. 10.

The 11:30 AM ceremony will be emceed by Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, President/CEO Leron Gubler. Composer Richard Sherman will be the guest speaker, and Rapunzel and Flynn from the upcoming Disney film "Tangled" will also make appearances. ("Tangled" features a score by Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater.)

The ceremony will be held at 6834 Hollywood Boulevard next to the El Capitan Theatre.

An alumnus of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, Alan Menken has earned eight Academy Awards, ten Grammys and seven Golden Globes. His works for the stage include Little Shop of Horrors, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Weird Romance, A Christmas Carol, Leap of Faith and Sister Act The Musical.

Menken's Academy Award-winning compositions include "Under the Sea" from Disney's "The Little Mermaid," "A Whole New World" from "Aladdin," the title song from "Beauty and the Beast" and "Colors of the Wind" from "Pocahontas." His screen musicals also include "Newsies," "Hercules," "Enchanted" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," which was later adapted for the stage.
