News   Alison Steadman Returns to the West End Stage in Sept.

Alison Steadman makes a welcome return to the West End stage (as reported in Theatrenow on July 23) in Debbie Isitt's black comedy The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband.

Dates for this show, which co-stars Daisy Donovan and Philip Jackson, have been confirmed: It will preview at the New Ambasador's on Sept. 5 and open on Sept. 16.

This play was very well received when it was first seen at the Royal Court Theatre and the Edinburgh Fringe in the early nineties. It's a highly entertaining exploration of jealousy, humiliation, deceit and betrayal, which gives an entirely new meaning to the old adage, "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach."

Kenneth and Hilary have been married nearly 20 years, but as middle age encroaches, Kenneth decides to have an affair. Unfortunately his new love, Laura, can't cook, so when Hilary, in an apparent gesture of conciliation, invites the couple over for a mouth-watering dinner, Kenneth accepts with relish — unaware of what delicacies Hilary has on the menu.

Alison Steadman plays Hilary, with Phillip Jackson as Kenneth and television presenter, comedienne and actress Daisy Donovan as the younger woman and rival, Laura.
