News Alterations: New Musical The Black Suits Nixed from MCC Season MCC Theatre has canceled its production of The Black Suits, which had been announced for the company's current season.

"After investing two years of time and resources in The Black Suits, we feel we have gone as far with the project as we can," explained executive director Blake West. "Obviously, we were passionate about the piece and wish its creators well on their journey to bring it to the stage. We are currently looking at a number of projects that we are very enthusiastic about producing and expect to make a formal announcement regarding our season's final show shortly."

The show — which would have marked the company's first-ever musical — was scheduled to play May 14-July 5, 2008, at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.

The company currently presents Jim Knable's Spain — starring Annabella Sciorra, Veanna Cox and Lisa Kron (through Nov. 17). The New York premiere of Mick Gordon and AC Grayling's Grace — starring Lynn Redgrave — will next play (Jan. 23-March 8, 2008).

According to a previous release, Joe Iconis and Robert Maddock's The Black Suits is described thusly: "Haunted by the prospect of a dead-end life in a working-class Long Island suburb, Chris decides to push forward with his dream. He relentlessly rehearses his band in the garage with the goal of a breakthrough from hopelessness to fame and escape. Problem is…nobody in the group wants it as much as he does." Iconis and Maddock are both recipients of the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation Award. Iconis also earned the 2007 Kleban Foundation Award and the Daryl Roth Award.
