Berkeley Rep's world-premiere production of American Idiot celebrated its opening night on Sept. 16. While producers Tom Hulce and Ira Pittleman pore over the reviews of local critics and map out the next stage of the musical's development, celebrants at Wednesday's opening continue to savor their memories of the milestone, which included a party that spanned the theatre's lobbies and courtyard.

A few attendees, though, will carry with them more than just memories of the opening - at least for a few months.

The show's post-premiere festivities included an on-site barber offering free buzz cuts to the daring. Eventually, Green Day frontman and American Idiot lyricist, co-composer and co-librettist Billie Joe Armstrong got into the act, taking over from the barber to give partygoers mohawks.

The stage adaptation of Green Day's blockbuster 2004 rock opera "American Idiot" continues at Berkeley Rep's Roda Theatre to Nov. 1.  The musical is directed by Tony Award-winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening) and stars Tony winner John Gallagher, Jr. as well as Matt Caplan, Michael Esper, Mary Faber, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Tony Vincent, and Christina Sajous.
