Classic Arts News American Tanya Gabrielian Wins Scottish Piano Competition Tanya Gabrielian, a 21-year-old American, won the Scottish International Piano Competition in Glasgow on Saturday, September 18, the Glasgow Herald reports.
Gabrielian, who played Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini in the final round, won Ô£10,000 and a Ô£40,000 grand piano.

The winner of the 2003 Aram Khachaturian International Piano Competition, Gabrielian studied with Hamish Milne at the Royal Academy of Music and at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Second prize went to the 23-year-old Russian Evgheny Brakham, who performed Ravel's Concerto for Left Hand and receives Ô£5,000. Amir Tebenikhin of Kazakhstan won the Ô£2,500 third prize; the Russian Dmitry Kaprin got Ô£1,500 for fourth place.
