PlayBlog An Off-Broadway Cover Story: White's Lies and Burnt Part Boys Ben Andron's new comedy White's Lies plays Off-Broadway's New World Stages, scheduled for a May 6 opening.

"Some guys are scared stiff at the prospect of settling down, getting married, having kids and Joe White is no exception," according to press notes. "He's a divorce lawyer, representing one of his many ex-girlfriends and above all else, he's a bachelor who wouldn't have it any other way. So when his mother desperately wants him to start a family, he'll do the next best thing: make one up! What could go wrong?"

The starry cast features Betty Buckley, Tuc Watkins, Peter Scolari, Christy Carlson Romano, Rena Strober, Andrea Grano and Jimmy Ray Bennett.

Playwrights Horizons and Vineyard Theatre join forces to co-present the New York premiere of the new musical The Burnt Part Boys, beginning previews April 30.

The work - with songs by Nathan Tysen and Chris Miller and book by Mariana Elder- takes place in "coal country, West Virginia, 1962. Fourteen year-old Pete's fighting to claim his past. His older brother Jake's hoping to forge a future. With their friends, they've embarked on a life-altering journey to the mine that took their father's life. Featuring a vibrant, haunting bluegrass and pop-inspired score, this gripping new musical from an acclaimed new team will capture your heart as it finds the streaks of light within the darkness."

Joe Calarco directs a cast featuring Charlie Brady, Al Calderon, Andrew Durand, Steve French, Noah Galvin, Michael Park, Molly Ranson, Randy Redd and Asa Somers.
