The April 2001 world premiere of Jane Anderson's Looking for Normal will be part of the Geffen Playhouse's five show 2000-2001 season in Los Angeles.

The new work by the author of The Baby Dance and Defying Gravity is a comic look at one man's life altering choice and how it impacts an Ohio town. According to the Geffen season announcement, Roy is a regular Midwestern family man with an irregular mid-life crisis. He's happily married, has two kids, and a good job at the local John Deere plant. Everything seems just normal, except that Roy needs a "drastic, gender bending change."

Looking for Normal was developed as part of the Mark Taper Forum's New Works Festival. The Geffen run begins previews April 3, 2001, opens April 11 and continues to May 13.

For television, Anderson adapted and directed The Baby Dance for Showtime, penned a piece for the anthology TV series, "If These Walls Could Talk 2," and wrote "The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom" for HBO. She also wrote screenplays to "How to Make an American Quilt" and "It Could Happen to You."

Also on the Geffen slate: • Donald Margulies' Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Dinner With Friends, with Rita Wilson, Daniel Stern, Kevin Kilner and Dana Delany, Sept. 26-Oct. 29.

Ennio: Starring Ennio Marchetto, an evening with the morphing Italian theatrical clown who uses paper to become a "human origami," Nov. 20-Jan. 7, 2001.

• Conor McPherson's haunting, award-winning Irish play, The Weir starring John Mahoney, Jan. 30 March 11, 2001.

• A fifth production to be announced.

This is the fifth season for the nonprofit Geffen Playhouse, at 10886 Le Conte Avenue in Westwood. For ticket or subscription information, call (310) 208-5454.
