The musical is currently playing an extended West End revival that reunites members of the show's original creative team.

The London production features Nicole Scherzinger, of "Pussycat Dolls" and "X-Factor" fame, as Grizabella. Lloyd Webber said that he is hopeful Scherzinger will focus on a theatrical career and reprise her performance when Cats returns to New York. A target season for the revival was not revealed.

A New York revival of the musical has not been officially announced.

"She is what you might call an American theatre babe," Lloyd Webber said of Scherzinger. "I do believe she is the most exciting musical theatre artist I have found – well, that I have worked with – in very, very many years. I really do. I am hoping the reaction since the opening will lead her into thinking that maybe going into the theatre is the career for her."

The West End revival of Cats, which features musical updates, began at the London Palladium in early December. The production recently extended through April 25, with Kerry Ellis joining the company Feb. 9 to take over as Grizabella from Scherzinger. Based on T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats," the musical became an international phenomenon and has continuously toured the U.S. for 30 years in various union and non-union productions. In 1991 Cats became the longest-running continuous tour in U.S. history. The show produced the standout single "Memory."

Cats opened on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre Oct. 7, 1982, where it ran for 7,485 performances before closing Sept. 10, 2000. It held the title of Broadway's longest-running musical, but was surpassed by Lloyd Webber's other hit, The Phantom of the Opera, which currently holds the title. Cats won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Lighting and Best Costumes.
