News Anne of Green Gables — The Musical Set for Motion Picture Adaptation Anne of Green Gables — The Musical will be adapted into a film, according to Variety.

Based on Lucy Maud Montgomery's young adult novel, Anne of Green Gables — The Musical will celebrate its 50th anniversary production in Canada in 2014.

Kristen Thomson will write the motion picture adaptation, which will be produced by Stephen Traynor, Jennifer Weiss and Simone Urdl of The Film Farm along with Side Road Media's Kelley Harron, who is the rights holder of the musical, and Brian Robertson.

"The story is timeless and the music and lyrics are as relevant and enjoyable now as they were when they were first imagined by Norman Campbell and my father," Harron said to Variety. "My producing partner, Brian Robertson and I are delighted to be collaborating with the Film Farm."

Anne of Green Gables — The Musical features a book by Don Harron, music by Norman Campbell and lyrics by Don Harron, Norman Campbell, Elaine Campbell and Mavor Moore. 

Canada's longest-running musical, it premiered in 1965 at the Charlottetown Festival. More information can be found by visiting anneofgreengablesthemusical.com.
