News Artists in Exile Present U.K. Premiere of I Dream of a Window

Artists in Exile, a group of playwrights, poets and authors from abroad, are to premiere a play, I Dream of a Window, by Syrian poet Ghias Aljundi, who fled to the U.K. in 1999.

Directed by Caryne Chapman Clark, designed by Nina Kobiashvili and with a cast of four, I Dream of a Window describes how a poet, imprisoned without pen or paper, composes a new work and teaches it to his fellow inmates. Each learns a piece of the work, and for the poet to re-create it on his release, he must find his fellow prisoners.

The play, which examines the world of refugees, is in the physical theatre tradition. A highly visual piece, not least because its intended audience is refugees for whom English is not their first language, as well as Londoners for whom the play will be, its performers hope, an insight into the issues and experiences facing refugees in England.

I Dream of a Window will be staged at the Riverside Studios from June 16 to June 22.
