The story was perhaps most dramatic at the Philadelphia Orchestra, where much of the orchestra and the audience was unable to make it to the Kimmel Center, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. About 750 concertgoers, most of whom had bought $10 "snow tickets," heard a partially revamped program, including what may prove to be a star-making moment. Pianist Emanuel Ax, a guest artist on the program, and associate principal cellist Efe Baltacigil gave a barely-rehearsed rendition of Beethoven's First Cello Sonata. The performance, writes the Inquirer's Peter Dobrin, "reveal[ed] Baltacigil as a highly individualized solo artist."
