The songwriters' performing right society, ASCAP, and the Walt Disney Company are looking for a few good musicals.

It is workshop time again, and musical theatre writers who are interested in participating in the Fourth Annual ASCAP Foundation/Disney Musical Theatre Workshop should apply now for the workshop scheduled for January/February next year at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California.

Grammy winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz will direct the coveted class. Schwartz' credits include Godspell, Pippin, and the Disney animated films Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The workshop series is aimed at giving writers the opportunity to present selections from their original works in progress for professional critique.

In the coming workshop, Schwartz will be joined by prominent guests from all aspects of theatre. Past panelists have included Lynn Ahrens, Jason Alexander, Marilyn Bergman, Stephen Flaherty and David Zippel.

Exact dates for the workshop will be announced in the near future. Meanwhile, interested applicants should submit a resume and a cassette tape comprising four original theatre songs to Michael A. Kerker, Director of Musical Theatre, ASCAP, One Lincoln Plaza, New York, NY 10023. Include a copy of the lyrics and a brief outline of the musical. Entry deadline is Dec. 18 and only a limited number of applicants will be selected due to space restrictions.
