News Asian American Theater Festival Announces October Programming The National Asian American Theatre Company will stage a production of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull as part of the 2nd annual Asian American Theater Festival in New York City.

Running Oct. 13-18 at the Theater for the New City and Julia Miles Theatre, the festival will showcase a collection of work from established and emerging writers including Kristina Wong, Alice Tuan, Soo-Jin Lee, Sheetal Gandhi and Shishir Kurup.

Programming includes Shishir Kurup's play Sharif Don't Like It, and Sheetal Gandhi's dance-theatre work Bahu-Beti-Biwi (Daughter-in—law, Daughter, Wife).

The festival will also host a series of public forums entitled 20th Century Performance in the 21st Century: The Future of Asian American Theatre, featuring Kristina Wong, Alice Tuan, Katie Pearl and Hatnim Lee.

Auxiliary offerings running beyond the festival dates include the Ma-Yi Writers Lab play reading series Labfest III, the New York premiere of the musical Imelda and the NAATCO production of The Seagull, under the direction of Gia Forakis.
