Poet, novelist and essayist Johnson pens the play about a lower-middle-income family in Ukiah, CA, filled with "tequila, firearms, a talking television set and a yipping chihuahua," according to the show's release.

David Levine directs a cast that includes Gretchen Cleevely (Juno and the Paycock), Kevin Corrigan ("Walking and Talking," "Trees Lounge"), Emily McDonnell (North Atlantic -The Wooster Group), Betty Miller (Three Sisters, Coastal Disturbances), Will Patton (What Did He See, Fool for Love), Michael Shannon (Killer Joe), Adam Trese (The Waverly Gallery), James Urbaniak (Lipstick Traces) and Kaili Vernoff (Looping in the Land of the Living - HERE). Shoppers' creative team features Marsha Ginsberg (sets), Mimi O'Donnell (costumes), Sarah Sidman (lights), Robert Kaplowitz (sound) and Nicki Ledermann (hair/ make-up). Douglas Crosby handles fight choreography.

The production is presented by Elizabeth Cuthrell and David Urrutia for Evenstar Productions — the team behind the film "Jesus' Son," adapted from Johnson's book of short stories by the same name.

Shoppers Carried by Escalators into the Flames plays at the Dimson Theatre, 108 East 15th St. (between Union Square East and Irving Place). Tickets can be purchased through Telecharge at (212) 239-6200 or online at www.telecharge.com.
