Classic Arts News Audra McDonald to Join Choir for Free Christmas Concerts Dec. 16-18 Four-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald will be the featured guest artist during the annual Christmas concerts presented by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra.
Held at the Conference Center at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, show times are Dec. 16 at 8 PM and Dec. 17 and 18 at 7:30 PM. Peter Graves : of "Mission: Impossible" fame : will also be part of the evenings as guest narrator. The concerts will feature Christmas songs, anthems and holiday-themed narrations.

Craig Jessop and Mack Wilberg will conduct the famed Choir and Orchestra, while John Longhurst, Clay Christiansen and Richard Elliott accompany on the organ. In a statement, conductor Jessop said, "Having a young star of the stature of Audra McDonald join us for our Christmas concert is an absolute dream come true. Not only has she made Broadway history by winning four Tony Awards at her young age, but she also is an Emmy-nominated actress. Her broad array of talents opens a wide range of creative doors for this year's Christmas program. We are very excited and honored to have her join us."

McDonald and Graves will also be featured as guest performers on the CBS radio broadcast "Music and the Spoken Word" on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 9:30 AM. The program will be taped at the Conference Center and will be followed by a mini-concert with additional music.

A four-time Tony Award winner for her work in A Raisin in the Sun Master Class, Carousel and Ragtime, Audra McDonald was also on Broadway last season in Henry IV. The singer-actress recently made her solo Carnegie Hall concert debut in an evening of songs scored for big bands, performing several tunes from her Nonesuch CD "Happy Songs." McDonald's other solo recordings, "Way Back to Paradise" and "How Glory Goes," are also on the Nonesuch label. She also co-starred in the recent NBC series "Mister Sterling."
