Producer David Brown is inspecting the possibility of bringing a new, one- woman play about movie star Ava Gardner to Broadway. No star has been attached to the project, but Brown told Playbill On-Line he hopes to interest director Christopher Hart in the project.

Hart is currently directing Swifty, also produced by Brown. Swifty, about legendary talent agent Irving Lazar, is playing at California's Grove Theater Center through April 25.

Ava was written by Edward Epstein. Gardner was a leading film star of the forties and fifties, adorning a lot of decorative, if second-rate, Hollywood features. Among her better known films are "The Killers" and "Mogambo." Though never considered a great actress, many thought her filmdom's greatest beauty. She was married, at various times, to Mickey Rooney, Artie Shaw and Frank Sinatra. She died in 1990.

Brown said he hopes to bring the show to Broadway, though he has decided upon no start-up dates.
