News Avenue Q's Lopez and Marx Head Aug. 2 Musical Benefit for Kerry/Edwards Campaign Theatre composers Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx (Avenue Q), Laurence O'Keefe (Bat Boy), Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich (Junie B. Jones) and Amanda Green and Tom Kitt (the in-development Hi Fidelity) will provide original material for a benefit to support the John Kerry/John Edwards presidential campaign.

The event, called In With the New, will take place 8 PM Aug. 2 at the Canal Room in Manhattan. Comedienne Judy Gold will host. The composers will also perform, as will Adam Overett, Joy Son, Jill Abramovitz, Brad Alexander, Nell Benjamin, Helen Chayefsky, Andrea Schulman Gellert and others. Alexander produces.

Lopez and Marx won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Score and Best Musical for Avenue Q.

The Democratic National Convention begins in Boston on July 25. John Kerry and John Edwards are the presumptive candidates for President and Vice President.

Tickets range from $20 (general admission) to $250 (patron seating).
