Previews will begin in early April, according to a casting notice. No theatre has been named, but auditions are being held at Daryl Roth's DR2 theatre. Roth is producing the work. Balaban has directed such Off-Broadway works as The Exonerated and Addicted. He is set to act in David Mamet's upcoming Romance for Atlantic Theater Company. His film and TV credits include "Seinfeld," "Waiting for Guffman" and "Catch 22."
Roth previously told Playbill.com she had recommended the script to Andrew Polk, the artistic director of the Cape Cod Theatre Project, the 10-year-old Falmouth, MA, summer theatre festival which quickly and briefly offers three polished readings of new works each July. The piece, a three-character work described as a "story of art, sex, youth and revenge," was presented July 10-12, 2003, under the direction of Ethan McSweeny. Anna Paquin starred.
CCTP had luck with the other two shows in its 2003 summer program as well. Bay Windows and Shades by Joe Hortua was given a workshop production in October at The Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. And Carter Lewis' While We Were Bowling was presented by the Studio Arena Theater in Buffalo.
