In addition, the dancers say that instead of negotiating, the company has tried to replace them with dancers at Dance Theater of Harlem, itself currently on hiatus because of financial problems, and American Ballet Theatre. Officials from Dance Theater of Harlem confirmed that its dancers had been contacted by Ballet Concierto, and said that two dancers were interested. An ABT spokesperson did not have any information about any such applications.
The company administrators responded that they had already given the dancers detailed explanations of the company's financial situation, and said that the dancers were giving inaccurate statements to the press.
Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico was founded in 1978 by Lolita San Miguel, a dancer who had performed at the Metropolitan Opera and the Joffrey Ballet.
