The canceled concerts include family and community concerts, performances of Handel's Messiah, and educational events.

"Obviously some series were better received than others and we continue to fine-tune the programming based on feedback from our audiences in Montgomery County," the spokesperson said in an email.

BSO executive Michael Mael told the Washington Post that the orchestra had expanded its plans at Strathmore after the first concerts at the new venue last season sold extremely well. "It exceeded our wildest dreams," he said, "and based on what we saw, we were very ambitious in rolling out new series this year."
