Folks who think "Deliverance" was the last word on rural Appalachian life may find playwright Romulus Linney has a few more on the subject in his Heathen Valley, receiving a rare staging, April 30-May 23, at Baltimore, MD's Everyman Theatre. Linney's drama tells of the "slope people," who lead a primal existence suddenly challenged by outside civilization. Vincent Lancisi directs the piece, which stars John Benoit, Doug Brown, Kyle Prue, Jefferson Russell, Vivienne Shub and Jacqueline Underwood.
Other Linney plays include The Love Suicide at Schofield Barracks (1971), 2 (1990) and Gint (1998).
