Barnes, a Juilliard graduate with numerous Broadway and television credits to her name — including Rumors, Arcadia and High Society — will portray Mrs. Kitty Warren opposite Tony Award nominee Xanthe Elbrick (Coram Boy) as her daughter Vivie. Barnes and Elbrick will be joined by Randy Harrison as Frank Gardner, Walter Hudson as Sir George Crofts, Mark Nelson as Praed and Stephen Temperley as The Reverend Samuel Gardner.

No reason was announced for Atkinson's departure.

Anders Cato directs George Bernard Shaw's scandalous 1905 classic, which centers on a family revelation: the congenial Mrs. Warren has, in fact, accrued her fortune by running brothels. Because of her mother's clandestine business, Vivie Warren has been privileged to an education and a finer life. The play, which was considered controversial when it debuted 100 years ago, examines morality, "honest work" and female independence at the turn of the century.

Mrs. Warren's Profession begins previews Aug. 14, with an official opening set for Aug. 17 and runs through September 1.
