Barbara Barrie and Hamish Linklater Guest Star on "Pushing Daisies" Oct. 31

News   Barbara Barrie and Hamish Linklater Guest Star on "Pushing Daisies" Oct. 31
Stage stars Barbara Barrie and Hamish Linklater will appear on the Oct. 31 episode of ABC's "Pushing Daisies," which features Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth.

Linklater plays John Joseph Jacobs opposite Barbara Barrie as Mamma Jacobs in the episode titled "Girth." An official synopsis reads: "When jockeys start turning up trampled to death, supposedly by the ghost of a long dead rider [guest star Linklater] and his spooky horse, Olive [Chenoweth] — a jockey in her life before the Pie Hole — hires Ned and the team to investigate. Meanwhile, Ned finds himself haunted by the ghosts of his own past as Halloween nears."

Linklater — known to TV audiences for his role on "The New Adventures of Old Christine" — has been seen Off-Broadway in The Busy World Is Hushed and Recent Tragic Events. Other credits include The Violet Hour and Hamlet.

Barrie, a former "Suddenly Susan" regular, is also a veteran of the stage. Her Broadway credits include Fiddler on the Roof, Torch Song Trilogy, California Suite, The Prisoner of Second Avenue and the original cast of Company — for which she was Tony Award-nominated.

Bryan Fuller ("Heroes," "Wonderfalls") and Barry Sonnenfeld ("Men in Black") created the new hour-long series, which plays Wednesdays at 8 PM (ET). (Check local listings.) Tony Award winners Kristin Chenoweth and Swoosie Kurtz as well as fellow stage actors Lee Pace, Anna Friel and Ellen Greene appear in the series. Billed as a "blend of romance, fantasy and mystery," "Pushing Daisies" follows a "forensic fairytale about Ned, a young man with a very special gift," according to a show description. "As a young boy Ned discovers that he can return the dead briefly back to life with just one touch. But his random gift isn't without deadly consequences… as he soon finds out."

Pace (Small Tragedy, The Guardians) stars as Ned opposite Friel (original star of Closer) and Chi McBride ("Boston Public," "The Nine"). Chenoweth (Wicked, The Apple Tree) plays a featured role along with fellow stage leading ladies Greene (Little Shop of Horrors, Side Man) and Kurtz (Frozen, Fifth of July). Jim Dale (The Threepenny Opera) provides the show's narration.

Raúl Esparza (Company) recently appeared as a guest star and is slated to return.
