The weekend of concerts will feature tunes from the Broadway songbook. The NSO Pops — under the direction of Hamlisch — will offer the overture to Candide and selections from Show Boat and The Music Man. Bass trombonist Matthew Guilford will also be part of the evenings, featured in Brubeck's "Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra." Show times are 7 PM March 31 and 8 PM April 1 and 2. Barbara Cook has starred on Broadway in Flahooley, Candide, The Gay Life, The Music Man and She Loves Me. She received a Best Featured Actress in a Musical Tony Award for her performance in The Music Man, and her one-woman show, Mostly Sondheim, was nominated for a Tony in the Best Special Theatrical Event category. Cook was most recently on the New York stage in Barbara Cook's Broadway. Both Mostly Sondheim and Barbara Cook's Broadway were recorded for DRG.
Tickets are priced $20-$80. Visit www.kennedy-center.org for more information.
