News Barbara's Blue Kitchen, with Lori Fischer, Begins Off-Broadway Run July 31 The limited engagement of Barbara's Blue Kitchen — a new play by and starring Lori Fischer — begins previews at Off-Broadway’s Lamb’s Theatre July 31.

The new comedy with music will officially open Aug. 3, and the production is scheduled to play nine weeks through Sept. 30. Fischer portrays seven eccentric characters in Barbara’s Blue Kitchen, which is set in a local diner in Tennessee run by Barbara Jean. Scott Wakefield is also featured in the play as the voice of the local radio. The production boasts 12 original songs.

Performer-playwright Lori Fischer created the role of Lee in the musical Cowgirls and the role of Mary in the Westbeth Theatre Center’s production of The Life. She has also appeared in mountings of Talley’s Folly, Steel Magnolias and Violet. A published songwriter, she penned the top 40 country hit "It’s Easy for You" and the children’s CD/video "Pat the Bunny Sing With Me!"
