August 9: Performances begin for the world premiere of The Layover, Leslye Headland’s psychological thriller at Second Stage Theatre Off-Broadway. The cast features Vinyl star Annie Parisse and Broadway’s John Procaccino (Clybourne Park).

August 7: Trip of Love, the dance musical that uses hit songs from the 1960s for its score, ends its run after nearly a year of performances at Stage 42. The show’s final four performances feature doo-wop chart-topper and Broadway actress Darlene Love.


August 9: Troilus and Cressida, the second show of the Public Theater’s free Shakespeare in the Park season, officially opens at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Directed by Tony winner Daniel Sullivan, the production is playing through August 14. The tickets are distributed outside the theatre on the day of the show; for the first time ever, tickets are also available via the TodayTix app.

August 9: Stephen Karam’s Tony Award-winning family drama The Humans continues its Broadway run at the Schoenfeld Theatre. The intimate production had to vacate the Helen Hayes Theatre, which is undergoing renovations, July 24.

August 5-12: Two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz returns to Feinstein’s/54 Below with his acclaimed concert act Girls, Girls, Girls.

August 8: Brian Stokes Mitchell, Andy Mientus, Laura Michelle Kelly and more star in a concert staging of the Broadway musical Ragtime on Ellis Island in New York Harbor. The site-specific show is directed by Sammi Cannold, who helmed Violet on a moving bus at Stanford University.


August 8: Broadway Balances America kicks off its third season on the Lifetime channel. The six-part series highlights behind-the-scenes access to the upcoming Broadway shows touring across America.

August 11 & 13: Barbra Streisand’s nine-city concert tour makes its New York City stop at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The Grammy, Tony, Emmy and Oscar winner is performing hits from each decade of her career as well as tunes from her latest album, with special guest stars in each city.
