News Barefoot in the Park Headed Back to Broadway One of Neil Simon's early hits, Barefoot in the Park, is headed back to Broadway.

The New York Times reports that Robyn Goodman and Roy Gabay will produce a Broadway revival of the Simon classic next season. Scott Elliott, who directed the recent revival of The Women, will helm the production. Casting has yet to begin. The Times says that producer Goodman recently obtained the rights for Barefoot in the Park from Paramount Pictures. The movie studio bought the rights from Simon in 1965 for $150,000. Simon told the Times earlier this week, "My business manager told me that I should take the money because I may never write another play again."

Barefoot in the Park may join another early Simon work, The Odd Couple, which the playwright also hopes to revive with The Producers co-stars Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick.

The original production of Barefoot in the Park began previews at the Biltmore Theatre on Oct. 21, 1963. The comedy officially opened Oct. 23 and ran through June 25, 1967, playing a total of 1,530 performances. Mike Nichols directed the play with a cast led by Elizabeth Ashley, Kurt Kasznar, Mildred Natwick, Robert Redford, Herbert Edelman and Joseph Keating.
