Batt will play Spencer Cannon, a handsome soap opera actor in his mid-40s, according to TVguide.com. He is best known to television audiences as Salvatore Romano, the recently fired art director of advertising firm Sterling Cooper on AMC’s hit show “Mad Men.”
Batt began his Broadway career when he took over the role of Munkustrap in Cats. Other Broadway credits include Beauty and the Beast, Sunset Boulevard, and Seussical, and most recently the 2004 revival of La Cage aux Folles.
Several theatre stars have appeared on "Ugly Betty"’s fourth and final season. Brian Stokes Mitchell ( Kiss Me, Kate, Ragtime) recently arrived on the “Betty” scene as an ex-flame of Betty’s boss Wilhemina (played by Vanessa Williams, soon to return to Broadway in Sondheim on Sondheim), and Aaron Tveit (Next to Normal, Wicked) will soon appear as a playwright and potential love interest for Betty.
“Ugly Betty” airs Wednesday nights on ABC.
