Classic Arts News BBC Scottish Symphony Players Get Ô£2,000 for Three-Mile Move Relocating in Scotland apparently isn't cheap. BBC Scotland has come under fire after deciding to pay members of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra at least Ô£2,000 in moving expenses to move to a new venue just three miles away.
The money is intended to cover the cost of transporting instruments from the orchestra's current home in Glasgow's West End to City Halls in the city center, which will become their new base in the new year.

The BBC, a publicly funded corporation, has been accused of wasting taxpayers' money.

Michael Matheson, a member of Scotland's parliament, told the Scotsman, "I find it difficult to understand why there is a need for any relocation costs given that they are moving within the city centre and just a few miles away."

A BBC spokesman said the payments were taxable and would be distributed over two years, pointing out that the amount paid to each member only came to about Ô£2 per day.
