The Irish invasion continues. New York's Irish Arts Center will present, beginning May 1, Conor Lovett's acclaimed stage version of Samuel Beckett's novel Molloy. The production has previously received stagings in London and at the Edinburgh and Dublin Theatre Festival. It will officially open in NY May 6.

The novel "Molloy" is part of a trilogy of works, including "Malone Dies" and "The Unnamable," which stand as Beckett's greatest achievement as a novelist. The book is written as a long monologue, with the story following the troubles and adventures of the title character. The stage adaptation consists of sections of the book recited verbatim.

As in previous productions, Judy Hegarty will direct. Both Hegarty and Lovett are natives of Cork. Lovett has also acted in productions of Beckett's Endgame and Waiting for Godot.

Among the other Irish-born or Ireland-centric plays which have hit New York over the past year are Martin McDonagh's The Beauty Queen of Leenane and his upcoming The Lonesome West; Conor McPherson's The Weir, St. Nicholas and the upcoming The Lime Tree Bower; Marie Jones' A Night in November; and Binlids.
