Bed & Sofa, featuring music by Polly Pen and lyrics by Laurence Klavan, is based on the 1928 Russian silent film of the same name. According to press notes, "The game of musical bed and sofa takes place in 1926 Soviet Moscow. Times are hard in Stalinist Russia and everyone is a cog in the wheel. Ludmilla keeps house but wishes for more. Her husband Kolya, a construction manager, accepts the status quo. When Kolya meets an old army buddy, Volodya, who has been displaced by the Moscow housing shortage, Kolya offers him the sofa in their cramped flat. In their military days, Kolya and Volodya shared a similar life philosophy. Now Kolya is content, while Volodya is restless and unsatisfied. Bed & Sofa explores the paths imposed on us and the bravery required to forge our own way."
The performance schedule for Bed & Sofa follows: Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 PM, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 4 PM. The show is recommended for ages 16 and up. Performances will take place at The Kitchen Theatre's new location, 417 West State and Martin Luther King, Jr. Street in Ithaca. For more information, visit kitchentheatre.org.
