Michael C. Hall, the Emmy Award-nominated actor of "Six Feet Under," wasn't just in a couple musicals when he was in high school, he seemed to be in every musical.
In the Aug. 6-12 Playbill On-Line Brief Encounter interview, Hall, who continues as Billy Flynn in Broadway's Chicago through Sept. 10 (opposite wife Amy Spanger), said, "I went to a private day school, so it was possible for the junior high and middle-school kids to be in the high school musicals, so from sixth grade all the way to my senior year I did a musical. I did all the chestnuts. I did Sound of Music, The King and I, South Pacific, Bye Bye Birdie, Oklahoma, Fiddler on the Roof and Annie Get Your Gun."
His favorite?
"Bye Bye Birdie — because I got to play Conrad Birdie, and I got to pretend I was a rock-and-roll star," Hall said.
In the PBOL's signature Q&A, Hall talks about appearing as Alan Cumming's replacement in Cabaret, about wife Spanger and where he was when he heard he'd been Emmy nominated. To view the August 6-10 Brief Encounter interview, click here.
