News Belton and Miller Set for Carousel at Long Wharf Nicholas Belton and Johanna McKenzie Miller will take a ride on Long Wharf Theatre's Carousel, which begins performances May 7.

A co-production with Chicago's Court Theatre, Carousel will be helmed by Court artistic director Charles Newell. The intimately staged production officially opens May 14 and runs through June 1.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's 1800's New England-set musical – based on Molnar's 1909 play Liliom – "follows a brash carnival barker, Billy Bigelow, and his bride, mill worker Julie Jordan, on a journey that spans both heaven and earth in its exploration of love, human frailty, and redemption," Long Wharf production notes state.

Nicholas Belton, who appeared Off-Broadway in My Life With Albertine as well as in the national tour of Wicked, stars as the doomed Bigelow, with Johanna McKenzie Miller (Ravinia's A Little Night Music) as Julie Jordan.

The company of Carousel also features Matthew Brumlow (Jigger), Ernestine Jackson (Nettie), Rob Lindley (Enoch Snow), Jessie Mueller (Carrie Pipperidge) and Laura Scheinbaum (Louise).

Completing the cast are Sean Blake, Ben Dicke, Carol Feiger, Neil Friedman, Jess Godwin, Tommy Rapley, Hollis Resnik and Travis Turner. Musical direction for Carousel is by Doug Peck with choreography by Randy Duncan. The creative team also includes John Culbert (set design), Mark McCullough (lighting design), Joshua Horvath (sound design) and Jacqueline Firkins (costume design).

Carousel took its first spin on Broadway in 1945. While the original production made its Broadway debut before the existence of the Tony Awards, the acclaimed 1994 Lincoln Center Theater revival (an import from the Royal National Theatre) earned five Tony Awards, including Best Revival.
