Bergen County Arts Center Reopens

Classic Arts News   Bergen County Arts Center Reopens
New Jersey's Bergen Performing Arts Center, formerly the John Harms Center, has reopened thanks to a $1.9 million loan from Bergen County, Newsday reports.

The new BergenPAC celebrated its opening Saturday, October 2, with a gospel concert by Patti LaBelle.

The Harms Center, which hosted jazz, classical, and popular concerts and served as the Englewood home of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, shut its doors in April 2003 after it was unable to repay a $2.3 million loan borrowed from Fleet Bank in 1998 and used for renovations.

The BergenPAC will repay the county with revenue from future concerts, Newsday says. The organization will also launch a $15 million capital and endowment fundraising campaign.
