Three-time Tony Award-winning Broadway star Bernadette Peters has been tapped to host the opening attraction at the 2017 Mostly Mozart Festival in David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center in New York July 25. It's an appropriate choice; Peters currently co-stars on the Amazon series Mozart in the Jungle.

Titled The Singing Heart, the 8 PM program celebrates “the sense of optimism that emerged during Mozart’s time, embodied in the composer’s music and that of his contemporaries.” The performance will feature Louis Langrée leading the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, pianist Kit Armstrong, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, and a number of soloists.

The concert will juxtapose Mozart’s Symphony No. 35 (“Haffner”) with traditional songs and spirituals from Mozart’s time. The evening will conclude with Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, featuring the pianist Kit Armstrong in his festival debut.

Peters has been nominated for seven Tony Awards, and won two for performance, in Song & Dance (1986) and Annie Get Your Gun. (1999). She also earned an Isabelle Stevenson Award in 2012. In addition to her Tonys, Peters has a Golden Globe, three Grammy nominations, three Emmy nominations, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Tickets for The Singing Heart cost $35–$80 and can be ordered by clicking here.

Francisco J. Núñez, the artistic director and founder of YPC, will host the second performance of The Singing Heart on July 26, at 7:30 PM.

The Mostly Mozart Festival will continue through August 20 with daily classical performances. Click here for a complete rundown of the scheduled concerts.
