Benjamin Beaus.

Breed? Age?
German Shepherd. Approximately ten years old

How did you find your pet?
I was driving to my horse trainer's ranch in North Texas on a farm road highway in my red Ford truck. Ben was running in the opposite direction on the other side of the highway. As we passed each other, our eyes met. It was such a powerful connection that I pulled over and got out of my truck. He looked at me, and I asked him if he needed help. And he came across the road, talking to me in dog syllables "ar, arr, arr....." I never met a talking dog before and was really very surprised. It felt like he was trying to tell me about his ordeal. So I went to the back door of my truck and opened it and told this beautiful talking dog that if he'd like to come with me, he could, and that I would give him a good home. So he came to the door and looked at me as if to say he needed help getting in the back seat of the truck. At that moment, I realized this was a strange dog that looked like a wolf and for an instant became afraid to lift him into the truck. In the same moment, he became fearful of me and ran around to the front of the truck. So I took a deep breath and followed him and said, "If you want to come, you have to get into the truck. There is lots of traffic out here and anything could happen. So if you want to, come on!" So he came back to the back door and looked at me again, clearly communicating that he needed help. He put his front paws up on the floor of the truck, and l heaved him in. I got in the driver's seat. He put his paws on the console and his head on my arm and gave a long sigh of relief. From that moment, he's been my best guy. He's the guard and the guide of our ranch.

What is the one thing your pet has eaten that he/she shouldn't have?
My little Shitz Tzu Pippa's food when I'm not looking What person, living or dead, does your pet remind you of and why?
He's the perfect man. I'd like to meet some dude as cool as Ben.

Where does your pet sleep?
In his bed on the floor at the foot of my bed.

Is this your first pet? If not, elaborate?
No, I have been blessed to have many, many pets. I currently have eleven animal friends at the ranch.

Do you use a groomer, no groomer?
Yes, we use a groomer.

Do you dress your pet? If so, what is his or her favorite, or least favorite thing to wear?
No.

Best Halloween costume?
None.

Best trip with your pet?
New York City, on two occasions.

Favorite Treat?
Dog biscuits and rawhide chews.

Does your pet do tricks/commands?
Yes. He does all the usual obedience commands. He also sings when I vocalize and shakes hands and leads the way on the ranch rides.

If you could talk to your pet for five minutes, what would you ask him or her?
Where he came from, what happened and tell him how much I love him and how grateful I am that he has been my guy for nine years.

Does your pet have a best friend?
Me. He also loves our shelty Maggie.

Is there a pet product you swear by that you can't live without?
Hypo allergenic shampoo, ear wash & prescription dog food.

If your pet was a character in a Broadway show, who would that character be?
The Music Man.

If there was one thing you would want people to know about your pet, what would it be?
That he is the most courtly dude.

You and your pet go on a talk show. What is your anecdote about him/her or his/hers about you?
That he talks and sings. He always listens to my practice sessions in my music room. He lays on the floor and is very attentive when I sing.

Most embarrassing thing your pet has ever done in public or when guests are over.
He doesn't do anything embarrassing. That, among many other reasons, is why he is such a courtly guy.
